Grade 6 Bands: Added Rehearsal on Dec 11

We are adding a full band rehearsal on Wednesday, December 11 for the Grade 6 bands. This will give the beginner students an opportunity to rehearse on the stage before their performance later that evening! (Grade 7/8s already have rehearsal at Martin that afternoon).

9:20-10:20 - rehearsal at Martin Collegiate

10:25 - return to school

MCLURG & WALKER

10:00 - busses arrive at elementary schools

10:25-11:25 - rehearsal at Martin Collegiate

11:30 - return to school

Winter Concert & Band Marks

1) Winter Concerts! (yes, that is a plural!)

Our winter concerts will be held on Wednesday, December 11 at Martin Collegiate!! Due to the growth in our band program, there will be two concerts in one evening!!

• Grade 6s from Buck & Rosemont, all Grade 7s and Junior Jazz band are part of the 6:00pm concert (students please arrive at 5:30pm for warm-up).
• Grade 6s from McLurg & Walker, all Grade 8s, and Senior Jazz band are part of the 7:30pm concert (students please arrive at 7:00pm for warm-up).

Uniform: students should be dressed in uniform, with their red shirts (coming soon), black pants/skirts, black socks and black shoes. If your student does not have their red band shirt yet it is because they are still on order. They will be handed out at a full band rehearsal pre-concert time.

Bakesale Fundraiser: at the concert, we will be having our traditional bake sale fundraiser in the front lobby.  Please bring one dozen of your favorite treats on a tray/plate that you don’t need back (no nuts please!).  All baking will be sold for $5.00 per dozen.  Parents and students can drop their baking at the table in the front lobby upon arrival to the concert. 

We hope to see all of you at our first performance of the year!

Attendance: attendance at concerts is vital. Students rehearse weekly with all of their peers in full band and missing members during performances does affect the sound of the whole band. It’s like competing in a playoff game but some of your teammates are missing. If you have any concerns about attendance this night, please contact us with as much notice as possible.

2) Band Marks

A mark has been entered into PowerSchool for your perusal. This mark will not be included in final term grades but is useful for check-in purposes. Please contact us if you have any questions at all! If you are concerned about your child’s mark, there is plenty of time before report cards in January to bring it up.

Band Schedule Nov 18-22

Hello fantabulous Band Parents!

Due to the musical at Martin Collegiate next week, and conferences at some schools, here is an updated band schedule for Nov 18-22:

Mon, Nov 18: Walker sectionals

Tues, Nov 19: Walker full band, NO GR 6 MCLURG full band as they are attending the musical that morning. NO GRADE 7 & 8 full band as Martin's auditorium is in use for the musical.

Wed, Nov 20 (AM): Rosemont full band, NO BUCK full band as they are attending the musical that morning

Wed, Nov 20 (PM): McLurg sectionals

Thurs, Nov 21: Rosemont sectionals

Fri, Nov 22: Buck sectionals cancelled due to conferences

Please encourage your students to practice extra next week to make up for the lost rehearsal time! Stay tuned for another email in the next day or so about our Winter Concert on December 11!

Remembrance Day Ceremony Uniforms (Grade 7 & 8)

Hello Band Families!

The Grade 7 & 8 students have been working hard to prepare O Canada for performance at Remembrance Day ceremonies at their respective schools.

Please remind your child wear dark (not flashy) clothing on the date of their school ceremony:

Walker – Friday PM

Buck – Friday AM and Friday PM
