With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we are both happy and sad. The last year has flown by and we have had some great experiences like the tours and Optimist Festival. The cycle continues as the Grade 8 students are now moving onto high school and a new group of Grade 6 students will begin in the fall. We are excited to see what the new year has to offer. If you still have not turned in your registration form for next year, please do so as we begin to plan for the next school year. If we do not see you before the summer, have a wonderful summer holidays and we will see you in the fall!!!

Teacher Change

Hello Band Parents,

This is a notice to let you know that Lindsay Stetner is returning to the Martin Area Bands and we are sadly saying goodbye to Robin Howell. Lindsay Stetner will take over Seven Stones sectionals, some Walker/McLurg sectionals, and Grade 6 Full Band. Dylan Wiest and Vanessa Strykiwsky are staying in their regular schedules.

Robin wants to thank all of the students she’s worked with in the Martin Area Band this year. All of the students have been extremely kind and hard-working and she will miss them very much. She looks forward to attending the end-of-year concert and hearing all the progress they will make in remaining months of the school year!

Thanks,

Vanessa Strykiwsky, Lindsay Stetner, Dylan Wiest, & Robin Howell

Optimist Band Festival

The Grade 6, 7/8, and High School bands will be performing at the Downtowner’s Optimist Band Festival at the Conexus Arts Centre in March.  The purpose of this festival is to provide our students with the opportunity to play in a quality venue, have a clinic with a highly regarded adjudicator, and to work toward a successful performance as a band.  They will perform two pieces for three adjudicators and an audience.  Following their performance, our bands will also have a group photo taken, or, an individual/small group taken if you choose (picture order forms will be sent home closer to the date).  Our students will leave by bus sometime during the morning and return before school is done for the day.

We are asking each band student to pay $7.00 to cover partial cost of the registration and transportation.  For Walker & McLurg families, payment will be online for this event.  For Seven Stones & Rosemont families, or anyone unable to pay online, please hand cash or a cheque made out to 'Regina Public Schools' in (labeled with your child’s name) to one of the band teachers no later than Friday, January 22 as registration for this event is due very soon.

We will send a note home closer to the festival with the exact day and time, a permission form, an itinerary of the day, and a picture order form. We will also need some chaperones, so look for that too!
