2019 Summer Band Camps!

Dear Band Families,

The Saskatchewan Band Association offers wonderful, fun, and enriching Band Camps that are offered across the province of Saskatchewan each summer. In particular, the Regina Junior Band Camp from July 28th – August 2nd, 2019 and the Prairielands Jazz Camp from July 7-13, 2019. The camps will take place at the University of Regina and is open to any band student who has at least one year of playing experience. Your child will learn from professional music educators, take part in ensembles and full band, receive private lessons, and enjoy many fun activities!

Please click the visit the links above and below where you can learn all about the Regina Band Camps. Once you are there, consider signing up your child for an amazing musical experience this summer! https://www.saskband.org/SBA-Band-Camps

If you are interested in sending your child to one of these camps but are unable to afford the registration fee at this time, the SBA provides a limited number of scholarships per school area. If you are interested in sending your child to a camp via scholarship, please let us know by Monday, April 29 so we can apply for one on your behalf.

Grade 7/8 Trip Info!

GRADE 7/8 BAND TRIP!

Dear Martin Area Band Families,

Our Martin Area Grade 7/8 band students have worked hard this year so we are celebrating by taking them on a well-deserved, one-day spring tour to Yorkton. The trip is planned for Tuesday, May 14.  Students will be performing for McLurg School before leaving the city.  After arriving in Yorkton, our students will have the opportunity to work with one of the band directors in the city, Ms. Kelsey Kuz.  We will also be going to the Gallagher Centre for some swim time and eating supper in Yorkton before returning to Regina by 8:30pm.  A complete itinerary of our day’s events will follow shortly.

Cost:  The cost per band student will be $45.00.  Payment for this trip will be set up online as this is the preferred method.  If you must send cash or a cheque, please label with students name and send in a sealed bag/envelope (cheques made payable to your school).  This includes two charter buses to and from Yorkton, our clinic, Gallagher Centre, and snacks for the students.  Everyone will need to bring a bag lunch, and money for supper.
***All money, consent and waiver form, and medical forms are due no later than Monday, May 6 (full band day).***

Expectations:
Over the next month, students should be preparing their music for the trip.  All students should be ready to perform all of their music for the school concerts.  We trust our students will be fine ambassadors for not only our schools but also the city.  We expect their performances and behavior to be exemplary.  When traveling with a large group it is extremely important that each student take responsibility for being on their best behavior AT ALL TIMES.

Parent Help:  We require parents to assist in chaperoning.  We especially require parents with a medical background or First Aid training. Regina Public School Board policy requires that all parent volunteers complete a criminal records check (recently changed to Police Information Check, and can now be applied for online).  Please let us know as soon as possible if you are free that day and would like to come along!

Grade 6 Trip Info!

GRADE 6 BAND TRIP!

Dear Martin Area Band Families,

The Grade 6 Band Students will be going on their day trip on Tuesday, May 7, 2019!  They will be performing a concert at Walker School, having a pizza lunch at Lakewood Park (under the gazebo by MacNeill School), going to Nortown Bowling Lanes, and finish the day with a short walk to McDonald’s for ice cream (students will need to bring money if they wish to purchase something from McDonald’s). They will be absent from school from 9:30am until 3:30pm.  The cost is $15 per student which will cover pizza lunch, drink, snacks, bowling, and transportation. Payment for this event will be set up online as this is the preferred method. If you’re not able to pay online, you may bring cash or a cheque (made payable to your school). All cash or cheques should be sealed and labeled with students’ name.

CHAPERONES – we will need at least 3 parents along with us that day to assist with the pizza lunch and bowling! If you are available and would like to come, please email or fill out and return the bottom portion of physical note sent home with students. Remember all parents who chaperone need to have a current Police Information Check (PIC) on file at their school office. You can now apply for a volunteer PIC online via the Regina Police website! Please note that the process of getting a PIC approved from the Police Service, to School Division Office, to your school office can take 3-4 weeks.

FOOD REQUIREMENTS – if your child has allergies or any other food requirements, please let us know so we can look at providing an alternate lunch for them that they can eat.

EXPECTATIONS – over the next few weeks, students should be preparing all of their music in order for successful concerts.  We trust that all of our students will represent our area of the city in the best way possible during all activities.  When traveling with a large group it is extremely important that each student take responsibility for being on their best behaviour.

DUE – Money and permission forms are due no later than Tuesday, April 30.  This is a full band day, so please send with your son/daughter if you’re turning in cash or cheque.
